Get The Edge
There are so many different options for lawn and garden edging that whatever your taste and requirements you will still be spoilt for choice. In some gardens bamboo edging or willow edging can look stunning and create a sleek, modern, and contemporary feel whilst still appearing natural. One great trend that seems to be gaining steam is mow-over edging. If you want low maintenance then this is the option for you. It is made from polypropylene and generally comes in a rope effect. Simply lay this against the edges of your lawn and it will provide you with a perfect mowing strip for your grass. This would be suitable for busy lifestyles and perhaps retired couples that wish to reduce the manual labour they put into their garden. Of course another way of doing this is to lay bricks that are level with your garden edge as you will be able to wheel your mower straight along them.
Bamboo edging is one of my personal favourites. You can use it simple to give a contemporary finish or even to bring a touch of Japanese Zen quality to your garden. The great thing about bamboo garden edging is that it can be bought in panels that are easy to install and relatively inexpensive. It is available in a range of finishes from a straight cut top to a wave effect but all this is really down to personal choice.
Willow edging will offer you a completely different look but with all the same advantages. Also sold in ready-made packs, willow is a very pliable material and is usually made in a wicker style. Also, because of it's flexibility you can use on lawns or gardens that have curved edges. Like bamboo it is also not expensive but will create an all-natural look and feel for your lawn edging. This is ideal for the perfect country retreat or bringing a bit of the wild into your town garden.
Another favourite of mine is the classic white picket fence. I'm not sure why as it could hardly be called modern which is my usual preference but there is something neat and tidy about having a small low white fence for your lawn and garden edging. This is just how I would use it. Picket fences are available in a range of heights and can be used to completely fence off your garden at waist height if you desire. Whatever look and feel you are trying to achieve for your garden design you will undoubtedly get some great ideas simply by searching the Internet. You would have to spend hours visiting dozens of garden centers to find the same amount of ideas for lawn and garden edging that you could see on the web, which are all just a few clicks away.
